BeActive
Be Active matches volunteers one-to-one with a 60+ adult to support their rehabilitation exercises at home and in the community for up to 9 sessions.* Be Active aims to enable a person to increase their independence and connection to their community.
Time for Me
Time for Me is an unpaid carers project designed to give carers a break and promote their health and wellbeing through social activities, events and outings. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers with excellent interpersonal skills and an understanding of the demands of a caring role. The project celebrates routine and spontaneity through regular and ad hoc activities and events, meaning the volunteer role is varied and suits someone who has a flexible schedule. Roles and responsibilities vary from offering admin support, planning and organising, wellbeing check-in phone calls, a befriender and/or someone to support on our trips and activities. One day you may be based in our office, the next catching the latest film at the cinema, enjoying a game of bowling, a morning at the spa or supporting an arts and crafts workshop.
To become a Time for Me volunteer, you just need to fill in our short application form here and tell us a bit more about yourself. If you have any further questions about the role, you can contact Jane on 074 3791 3154 or Carerstimeforme@openage.org.uk.
Reception Volunteer
Reception volunteers build the relationships that help visitors feel comfortable and relaxed while we inform them of the activities we offer, help them book onto those that interest them, and assist with the practical, ongoing event support that can give a great customer experience. This is a frontline customer facing role which would suit a confident, approachable person with great interpersonal skills and an interest in building relationships with our local community.
Gardening Volunteer
Gardening volunteers support the Open Age team to look after our gardens in any kind of weather for the benefit of all our visitors. We are always on the look-out for green-fingered helpers to assist with keeping our gardens in great horticultural condition all year round. This is a volunteer role which would suit an enthusiastic gardener of any ability, with an interest in helping our gardens grow in the years ahead and spending time with people from the local community who visit them.
Physical Activity Volunteer
The physical activity volunteer builds relationships that help people feel welcomed and included in their chosen activity. The volunteer is also responsible for registry taking, fee collection and notifying staff if anything of concern needs attending to. This is a varied and rewarding role which would suit a confident, approachable person, with good people skills and an interest in the importance of physical activity to older people’s continued good health and wellbeing in later life.
Men’s Space Volunteer
Men’s Space is a community engagement programme providing a range of activities and events that give older men a safe and secure space to enjoy more options in life with men of a similar age and interests. This is a volunteer role which would suit a confident, approachable man, with sensitive interpersonal skills and an awareness of the importance of enabling older men to connect with others around activities and events that can improve their enjoyment and quality of later life.
Community Engagement Volunteer
Community engagement volunteers help raise our profile, promote our activities and build relationships with local supporters that help fund our courses, activities and events for older people. This is a varied and flexible role which might suit you if you cannot commit to volunteering at fixed times on a weekly basis, but care about the work that we do, are willing to speak for us in public from time to time and can help us build relationships with interested groups in our local community.
Social Media Volunteer
The social media volunteer will be a proficient social media user with an understanding of current online trends who can help us reach out and connect with more people in our local communities who might volunteer with Open Age. This is a role which would suit a confident social media user interested in gaining online project delivery experience by volunteering to support volunteering staff in a leading charity committed to improving the health and wellbeing of older people.
Creative Arts Volunteer
The Creative Arts volunteer shares their passion and creative talents with interested older people to nurture confidence and develop the creative potential which can improve general health and wellbeing. As a volunteer you will help us deliver workshops for groups of varying sizes and abilities at our Open Age centres and, out and about, in the community. All creative skills are welcome, from jewellery making and needlework, to knitting and crochet, and drawing and painting.
Administration Volunteer
We could not manage the complexity of our work without the support of our volunteer administrators whose sensitive interpersonal skills and IT skills, including Outlook, Word and Excel enable the charity's work to run smoothly, even on busy days. Open Age administration volunteers support and strengthen the work of a range of teams across the organisation and are able to work independently and flexibly, undertaking extra administrative tasks when the need arises.
Smart Phone Starter Volunteer
We are seeking enthusiastic and tech-savvy individuals of any age to join our team of Smartphone Volunteers at Open Age. As a volunteer in this role you will help our older members new to smartphone and tablet technology become more comfortable and proficient in using their devices to keep in touch with family and friends and better access our practical activities and social groups which can contribute to their health and wellbeing in later life.
