Change the way you think about age!
Dear Member,
This October, Open Age is celebrating the 30th anniversary of ‘International Older Peoples Day’, which was created by the United Nations (UN). As part of this day, the UN has designated a number of aims, one of which Open Age wants to highlight. This is to ‘increase the understanding of the impact of Covid-19 on older people and its impact on health’.
We know that the past few months have been challenging for all. Isolation and a lack of social contact are some of the biggest challenges our members are facing. This is why Open Age has created the ‘Reconnect’ campaign where no one is left behind. We know that, although many of our members have been able to access our developing remote offer there are still barriers in place for many more. Many older people, especially the most isolated and less well off, will not have a device that can be used, or even if they do, may not have access to the internet.
From the 1st – 11th Oct, we are asking you to reconnect with classmates and friends you would have found through Open Age’s activities. When you reconnect with them please do let them know that the Open Age community is here. As the winter months approach, this may offer comfort in knowing they can reconnect with others. This will be our biggest online campaign to date, so why not be part of something special that really can make a big difference in someone’s life knowing that their friends and their Open Age community are here to help.
During these uncertain times, Open Age as a charity receives no government funding. The charity is built upon member engagement and this is crucial to our success.
